Along Came a Spider

I'm not really much of a spider-fan (despite this replacing last month's web theme), but I've always liked the Common Orb Weaver.

common Orb Weaver

I think it's a combination of the colouring, patterns and barbed-wire legs that make them so appealing to look at.

You might know them as the Cross Spider, the Diadem, or simply the garden spider (even though they don't look like gardens); whatever you call them, they're just as pretty.

I'll spare the squeamish by not having more pictures, but there are some more here, and a big one!

And, new for 2012, another one.
